The Problem

The "Climbing Rut"
is Real.

You've got the fitness. You're crushing plastic. But the transition to an outdoor expedition feels like a wall you can't scale alone.

The Logistical Nightmare

Navigating Colombian mountain roads, finding remote crags, and vetting safe lodging without a local fixer. The planning alone takes months, and you still might get it wrong.

The Safety Gap

The nagging "what-if" when evaluating unknown bolts, reading 80m lines of unknown sandstone, and lugging 30kg of equipment across borders. One wrong call changes everything.

The Community Void

Climbing is better with a tribe, but finding five other motivated, mid-grade climbers for a 10-day expedition is nearly impossible. You want the send energy, not a solo grind.

Fluorescent lights and plastic holds were never the end goal.

We handle the logistics, the hardware, and the itinerary.
Your only job is to tie in.

Your Base at La Mojarra

The Sanctuary:
Refugio La Roca

Forget dirtbagging. You'll be stationed at the legendary Refugio La Roca, a birdhouse-style lodge perched over the Mesa de los Santos canyon. The kind of place that ruins you for normal holidays.

Morning

Start your day with sunrise yoga on the terrace, overlooking a 300m canyon and the red sandstone walls below.

Day

A 5-minute walk to the base of La Mojarra: 200+ routes from technical slabs to overhanging pockets on gorgeous red sandstone. Our guides know every draw on the wall.

Evening

Culturally immersive meals with the very people who bolted the routes you just climbed. Fresh fruit, local food, real conversations.

Guiding Since 2015

Your Leader

Meet Will,
Your Guide

Will started his South America adventure in 2015. Based out of Squamish, BC (one of the world's great climbing towns), he spent that first winter rafting in Mendoza, Argentina, then crossed into Chile for 16 days in the Cochamo Valley: 100 pitches of granite, two first ascents, and zero trails back to normal life.

His first Colombia expedition followed in 2016. He's been running these exact crags ever since. He knows the local bolters, speaks fluent Spanish, and has personally guided climbers of every level across La Mojarra and Suesca. PCIA-certified (Professional Climbing Instructors' Association — North America's highest guiding credential). Zero incidents in 10 years of operation.

This isn't a faceless tour company. Every route suggestion, every rest day decision, every dinner conversation is Will, because he built this from the ground up and he's still the one leading every trip.

"I'm a beginner climber but I never once felt left behind. I always felt included and safe, wherever we went. Starting each day in the yoga house above a 300m canyon was something I'll carry forever. The San Gil Class V rafting was the best day I've ever had on any trip."

"Having never done a tour before, I was surprised at how organic everything felt. There was always room to detour, try new food, or be lazy, and yet somehow we still achieved every goal. Will runs a seamless, world-class operation."

★★★★★

"As a 5.10 climber I was worried about keeping up. By day 4 I was climbing 5.11 on sandstone I'd never touched before. The coaching from Will and the local guides was the difference. It wasn't cheerleading, it was real, technical feedback that actually moved the needle."

Got Questions

Everything You
Need to Know

"Is Colombia safe?"

We operate in high-security, climber-centric mountain communities, worlds away from any urban risks. Our logistics are private, vetted, and run by locals who prioritise your peace of mind above all else. Will has been operating these exact routes since 2015 without a single incident.

"Am I strong enough?"

If you've climbed in a gym before, you are ready. Our guides specialise in the "Transition Phase": teaching you the technical skills (cleaning anchors, lead mental game, reading sandstone) to level up safely outdoors. All levels welcome.

"How does the deposit work?"

A $500 deposit secures your spot immediately and is deducted from your total. The balance isn't due until 30 days before departure, giving you plenty of time to plan and sort flights.

"What if I have to cancel?"

Life happens. Your $500 deposit converts to a transferable trip credit — you or a friend can apply it to any future South America Rocks expedition. Note: this is a trip credit, not a cash refund. If you have concerns about your specific situation, reach out to Will directly before booking. We recommend travel insurance for complete peace of mind.

"What are climbing conditions like in May?"

May is one of the best months to climb in the Colombian Andes. La Mojarra and Suesca enjoy warm, dry conditions — consistent temperatures in the low-to-mid 20s Celsius with minimal rain. The sandstone is in top condition. Evenings at elevation can be cool, so pack a mid-layer for canyon evenings at Refugio La Roca.

"How fit do I need to be?"

You're ready if: you've been climbing indoors or outdoors for at least 6 months, you're comfortable on lead (or want to learn on this trip), and you can commit to 8–10 active days. Routes run 5a to 7c+, so beginners climb every day alongside stronger climbers. You don't need to be training for the Olympics — you just need to want the experience.

"Do I need to bring my own gear?"

No. All technical climbing equipment is provided: ropes, quickdraws, harnesses, helmets, belay devices. All you need is your climbing shoes, chalk bag, and a sense of adventure.

"Do I need to speak Spanish?"

Not at all. Will and the guides are bilingual: all instruction, logistics, and local interaction is handled in English. That said, learning a few words of Spanish goes a long way with the locals and adds a lot to the experience.
